Partnership With Government
Unemployment in South Africa has become increasingly serious issue over the years. It’s not just about new businesses and corporation launching or existing ones expanding their operations and creating more positions for employees. Many have also said that it’s about job seekers gaining the skills and experience needed for their desired employment.
And while these are incredibly important factors, we’ve found that another big obstacle to reducing unemployment is getting the two parties together in the first place: companies recruiting and appropriately skilled candidates. Many job seekers miss out on opportunities suited to them while the company hires another candidate that isn’t suitable for that specific position. This just creates economic wastage on both sides.
Government Support
Gauteng’s Department of Social Development has recognised these barriers to entry, as well as our company’s efforts to rectify these inefficiencies, and have decided thrown their full support behind our project. They hosted an event in June 2012, where many business leaders were invited and asked to invest in this project by using Lulaway for their entry level and semi skilled recruiting.
The response was overwhelming and combined with the Department opening of 10 Luluway Job Centres and commitment to open another 10 in remote areas, it means we can really begin to bring a lot more valuable employment opportunities and support structures to areas deprived of the necessary technologies.
Barriers Further Reduced
We have charge job seekers a modest fee for the initial application, to cover our basic operating costs. But in their centres the Gauteng Department of Social Development went even further and decided to subsidise the cost of the application, reducing the price of registration for a job seeker to a meagre R 10.
It means that now almost anyone can come to our Job Centre, register, get a professionally made CV, take the necessary skills tests and wait for the right job opportunity to come up.
What we need now is increased support from the private sector to create the necessary positions for these skilled candidates. If you are a recruiter of semi-skilled or entry level employees, looking for pre-screened candidates while improving your Corporate Social Investment, we can improve your company’s recruitment practices, as well as increase profitability and optimise business functions.
