As Mandela Month approaches its end, Lulaway Holdings took a moment to reflect on its efforts to combat poverty and inequality, particularly through its recent outreach to the Thuthuzela Aid Centre in Alexandra. The initiative saw the organisation provide essential food staples, fresh fruit, and warm clothing to support the centre’s work with vulnerable families and children.

Lulaway CEO Jake Willis emphasised that the initiative was not just about the donated goods, but dignity, care and reminding people that they matter.

To ensure the initiative was impactful, Lulaway consulted with Thuthuzela’s team before the visit, tailoring their contribution to meet the specific needs of the centre’s residents. “This was not just about giving, but about giving with intention. We made sure our support was relevant and genuinely helpful,” added Willis.

Lulaway’s initiative at Thuthuzela reflects its long-standing mission, established in 2008. Lulaway has focused on empowering underserved communities through employment, training, and social impact programmes. This mission guided their decision to partner with Thuthuzela, an organisation dedicated to youth development and poverty alleviation.

“We chose Thuthuzela because their work aligns with our focus on youth development and poverty alleviation. By supporting their residents with practical items like food and clothing, we’re making an impact that is both immediate and meaningful,” Willis shared.

The visit went beyond material aid, with Lulaway’s team engaging directly with the children at Thuthuzela to foster connection and a sense of belonging. The impact of their visit was highlighted by Lizzy Monyela, founder and director of Thuthuzela Aid Centre, who noted that Lulaway’s dedication to supporting the children at Thuthuzela did not go unnoticed.

“Your presence inspired both staff and children alike, and we are honoured to have had your support. We look forward to continuing this relationship of community upliftment together,” she shared, further expressing gratitude to Lulaway for stepping forward and standing with them in such a compassionate way.
