Demand-led Youth Employment Programme
My radio internship at Alex FM was an incredible experience that helped me develop both personally and professionally. It gave me the chance to work alongside industry experts and learn the ins and outs of broadcasting. The hands-on experience, coupled with valuable mentorship, allowed me to refine my skills and build a strong foundation for a career in radio. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity and excited for what the future holds in the industry.
Through a partnership with GIZ, we successfully placed 110 unemployed youth into 19 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), including 10 youth in the solar sector. The project aimed to create sustainable employment, with all participants earning a living wage and gaining valuable work experience.
More than just job placements, the project focused on empowering young people to remain economically active beyond their initial opportunities. The result? Resilient, skilled youth ready to thrive in the workforce.
Participating SMEs benefited from increased capacity and operational support, with 50–60% of youth absorbed into permanent roles post-placement. Notably, 60% of the beneficiaries were female, and 90% were successfully monitored, ensuring strong oversight and impact measurement.
This project highlights how targeted interventions can uplift communities, support businesses, and drive inclusive economic growth.
